Cabaret (Plays)

"Auditions for Cabaret will be held this Friday immediately after school."

This 1966 Broadway musical, set in Berlin during the rise of Adolf Hitler in 1929 and 1930, is pretty heavy material for a high school production. Still, during her news broadcast, Meg lets everyone at Neptune High know that the opportunity to audition and sing their little hearts out awaits.

"Cabaret" (Music)

"Life is so not a cabaret."

The hook to this J. Kander and Fred Ebb song, the finale in the musical, proclaims that "life is a cabaret." This declaration is seen by some as an invitation to live in a fantasy world whenever reality becomes too harsh. It's hard to argue when a song encourages people to forget about their problems so they can socialize with friends and listen to music. Basically, pretend that life is one big musical theater. After Meg's humiliation at the Cabaret auditions, Veronica reminds us that this is so not the case.
