The Outsiders (Literature, Movies)

"I suddenly feel like I'm in a scene from The Outsiders."
"Be cool, Sodapop."

The Outsiders is a young adult novel by S.E. Hinton. It was made into a film in 1983 and kick-started the careers of a number of young Hollywood actors, including Matt Dillon, Tom Cruise, and Patrick Swayze. The story centers around violent conflict between gangs of poor teenage hoodlums and their rich, privileged rivals. As Wallace watches the bikers taunt the outnumbered 09ers, he is reminded of the carnage. Things are so tense that Wallace doesn't even get the chance to object to being equated to Rob Lowe.
