"I suspect Oprah may tear Apollo a new one on national TV."
In 2003, James Frey wrote a graphic and disturbing memoir, A Million Little Pieces, about his decade as a drug-addled layabout. In September 2005, his ship came sailing in when Oprah Winfrey named it her book club's featured read of the month. Sales spiked, and thousands of former addicts everywhere commended Frey for his honesty and thanked him for his help. By January 2006, Frey's world came crashing down; much of his "non-fiction" work was revealed to be fraudulent, Oprah berated him in a televised setting, and his publishing company was forced to offer refunds to any reader who felt duped. While Frey's name is never vocalized, Apollo's story definitely seems ripped-from-the-headlines.
